SellMyData vs Troveo: which broker pays more for company data?

Verdict

Pick SellMyData if you are a small company, including one under 30 staff, and want to see a redacted preview and price before anything is listed, with a 7-day payment target after a sale. Pick Troveo if you want several sales over time from one dataset, since it says it averages 4 sales per dataset and works with 40+ active buyers. Neither publishes its commission or revenue share, so get that number in writing first.

How do SellMyData and Troveo differ?

Both are brokers. Each de-identifies a company's exports and licenses them to AI labs, and is paid only when a sale happens. The difference is the deal shape. SellMyData works each company by hand and its calculator assumes one lab licenses the data exclusively (SellMyData pricing page, October 2026). Troveo acts as a licensing agent that brings one dataset to many buyers and shares revenue on every sale, the first and each one after (Troveo business data page, October 2026).

Both have you export the data yourself rather than connect your systems. SellMyData says it never writes to your systems; Troveo says it needs no system connections and writes a manifest for each dataset.

How is the price set?

Neither publishes a price list or completed deal figures, so public pages cannot tell you which pays more. SellMyData's calculator starts at a $5,000 floor; Troveo says full-company deals start at six figures.

SellMyData reviews each estimate request by hand and gives a range by email or on a 30-minute call. Its pricing page says a non-exclusive license is worth roughly a third of an exclusive one, citing Epoch AI. Troveo's price guide cites public reference points of about $5,000 for a single code repository and roughly $10,000 to $100,000 per deal for code and workspace archives from startups shutting down (Troveo, September 2026). Troveo labels its $850,000 example payout an illustration, and SellMyData's $300,000 client quote is the broker's own claim with the client unnamed. See how much company data is worth.

When do you get paid, and on what terms?

SellMyData targets payment within 7 days of a sale closing. You approve the buyer and the terms of every license, and you can unlist and delete your data from its systems at any time. Its terms of use took effect October 24, 2026, and say a counsel-reviewed version will replace them.

Troveo pays a share of each sale under terms in the agreement, but does not publish when each share is paid. It says exclusivity is time-limited, has to be earned and comes with exit terms. Its $20M+ paid to licensors covers video, audio, gaming, robotics and business data together.

Neither publishes its rate: SellMyData's commission and Troveo's revenue share are both set privately.

Which one suits your company?

SellMyData suits small companies that other programs turn away on headcount, and owners who want to review a redacted preview and price first. Troveo suits companies that want recurring income from several sales and have records across many systems.

What should you ask both?

  • What percentage do you keep, and what do I keep, on each sale?
  • Is the first license exclusive, and for how long?
  • When is each payment made after a sale?
  • Where are my exports stored while you prepare them, and for how long?
  • Can I see the written offer behind any figure you quote?
